The Tower of Babel - Languages: Isn't this story unhinged?

besides the obvious fact that it is historically ridiculous - can anybody make any sense out of this story?.

god was somehow afraid that man was developing too much technology?

just because they were building a tower?.

Like Found Sheep said, it is just another biblical story to explain a natural process. It would be absurd to actually believe that this was how languages started. Don't forget Genesis 10, which lays out the table of the nations. Noah's sons were spread out, according to their languages. Depending on the translation you use, it might say language, it might say tongue. The tower of Babel story isn't until chapter 11

What percent of JWs pubs. are childless?

what percent are single, childless couples and/or couples that have grown children?

i know that can depend on what cultures/countries they are, but what do think across the globe.. what percent are children, six to 18 yrs.

olds?.

Many couples we know our age (early-mid twenties) don't have kinds unless they had them by accident. It's all about waiting until the new system. We had decided that, looks like that will change haha.

Many also worry they couldn't afford it, most young JW couples I know are terrible with money. The feel is a lot different these days that even 10 years ago, a lot more couples don't have plans for kids, just plans to go down to one income and pioneer or things like that.

Over the last couple of years they have had remarkable success with the completely astounding incentive of dropping the hour requirement for auxiliary pioneering in March/April (or whenever). The organisation invents a job description which has absolutely no basis whatsoever in the scriptures, gives it an arbitrary hour requirement - 50 hours a month - and makes publishers sign a written agreement that they will meet this requirement.

Of course this is all done while insisting that it isn't done so that more people can wear the pioneer badge. In fact someone would be deeply offended if you were to tell them that!

I say, stop announcing the names of who is auxiliary pioneering each month, and watch what happens to the number of auxiliary pioneers.

So out of touch. Look at the caption though... 'how can we identify modern day Absaloms and guard ourselves against them?' don't worry, you won't have to. They don't like you and your self righteous douchebag attitude.

And I don't remember any JW parties going like the one in the previous pic. Most of the time there were a LOT more people, mostly ish faced and hooking up, but of course with half JW standards. No drugs and keep it above the belt. It looks like they are trying to get away from that.

No can I get out of going in service?

as some of you who read my previous thread know, my matrix moment has passed, and i am on my way out.

i am trying very hard to fade slowly in hopes that my wife will wake up, and maybe my family too.

the problem is, my conscience still works well, and i don't want to go out in if service and tell people things that i know aren't true.

I think I will just have to nut up and fake a report. Like WTWizard said, it is better than lying to people out in servo.

i have been on this site daily, almost from its beginning, since i left the jws in 2001, but i have been more of a reader than a poster, as you can see from my post count.

i know few here know me, although i know many of you through reading your posts.

maybe it is not right to ask for support, when i generally stay quietly in the background of this forum, but i want only to speak a human misery of the deepest kind.

I have no idea what to say to this... But I am deeply sorry to hear that about your loss. A person should never have to go through what you're going through right now. Hopefully someone who is better qualified than I am can relate, or share their thoughts?

That is great advice, probably true, I would be one of many. I have heard that there are a TON of faders in my area. We are the only cong for 4 hours in any direction, in a town of 100k people. There's a little over 100 pubs, and 25 pioneers. Off the top of my head I can think of a handful of people who go to probably 1 in 15-20 meetings. You can bet they don't turn in a time. My cong seems kind of divided. There's the Super Dubs, pioneers learning a foreign language, etc. and the rest of us. We live in a boomtown so lots of us work a lot, giving us a good excuse.

We just had the hounder hounder visit before the un-memorial, so it may be a good time.
